Its time again!! The time of the year for all knots, people coming together, bonding into a relationship.
They say that marriages are made in Heaven. So exactly to impress all devtas and devis(saints) the marriage has to take place on auspicious days as per the Lunar Calender. So typically there is a season mostly around april - May and Oct - Jan.
I love wedding parties. Its for food, fun, rituals. All in all a great social event. But it does multiply the population ;)
Between all weddings of my sister's brother in law, my aunty's son, family friends etc was the wedding of my best friend. We went to the same coaching classes, then same university. We are friends for last 15 years. We are Friends and our families too.
Now settled in Sweden he is back in town for one month to get married to an oriya girl. So it was his Sangeet.
Sangeet is a party for family and close friends. The ladies get their hands printed with mehendi, like a tattoo which stays for two weeks. There would be professionals for doing mehendi for the ladies between all the singing and dancing. Nothing different from a Bollywood movie. There are also prizes for the best outfit, best jewellery, best dancer, singer etc like a red carpet event.
My friend's little sister who was a tomboy of the group has now turned into a beautiful girl. She got the best mehendi of the day. Not only her, all the ladies were with a very bright grace.
A wedding in India is like ten crazy days. Endless shopping till the final day, parties almost every evening, lots of eating to pamper/spoil the stomach, drinking with friends, sending out invitation to 10000 friends and relatives is another headach, the groom and the bride has to starve on the day till they finish the rituals. Getting loaded with make up to hide the tiredness. The entire house gets a renovation. The pain for the couple getting married is the fun time for the family, relatives and friends.
