Another festival or fair from the past still in Practice. Its called BALI JATRA, literally meaning the voyage to BALI, Indonesia. Yes its now, a neigbhouring city of Bhubaneswar called Cuttack celebrates whole one week Trade fair to sell goods on the river bed of River Mahanadi
Another place which used sail boats to places around the world.
The seven day festival starts the same day as BOITA BANDANA. Vendor selling clothes, shoes, silk , furniture from Malaysia etc. To add modernization we have all the fun games from the amusement parks.
BALI JATRA, is predominantly ships sailing to the islands of Java, Sumatra, Bali
and Borneo collectively known as Suvarnadvipa( The Golden Island) or modern Indonesia.
As we have Boita Bandana and Bali Jatra, in Thailand they have 'Loi Krathong' and 'Masakapan Ke Tukad' of Indonesia. We share similar cultures and this festival is an evidence.

Where do I have to go to watch this celebration? Any specific date and time where it is most colorful?
ReplyDeleteHey Ayon, you have to go to the city of Cuttack in Orissa for this festival. It is held for seven days starting from the full moon in end of October to beginning of November.
