The month in Hindu Calender is not as per the Sun. It is calculated as per the size of the moon. There is no fix date for a month. Every full moon day is when a month ends and another starts.
Kartik Masa meaning Month of Kartika is one among the twelve months of the year which is very auspicious and a religious month.
For the whole month the Hindus refuse to eat oil, onion, garlic, fish, meat or Egg. They take bath early morning and visit the temple.
Last five days considered to be most auspicious and the women in the family take bath before sunrise and do colourful pictures of flowers, deities , symbols with rice powder at the sacred plant outside the house called Tulsi.
Mostly done by teenage girls who also visit the Shiva temple for a desirable companion. They pray the LINGA, which is fusion of genitals of Lord Shiva and Godess Parvati.
The day after the full moon day, its the greatest feast ever where the family celebrates over a big variety of food called Chada Khai. All that food desired and rejected during past one month.
